Nature Notes: finding purpose in mountain air

In early December 2017, the Thomas Fire was blazing, burning an acre a second. The largest fire recorded at the time, it was started by sparking power lines. It was raining ash where I lived in Santa Barbara. Shortly before being formally evacuated, a couple of us headed to Sequoia National Park in search of fresh air and shelter. It was a surreal experience not knowing if my home would be there when I returned, even while appreciating the serenity of crisp winter, mountain air and snow. I’ve never been so grateful for fresh air when doing my morning breathwork as next to Pear Lake that day.

Immersing myself in nature is what brings me alive and soothes my soul. I care deeply about protecting biological diversity. That’s why I’ve dedicated my leadership development practice and work at Regenerous to supporting Chief Sustainability Officers and series A startup leadership teams working to defend and restore our natural world.
